John Manuel Legaspi is an artist from Masbate and currently based in Cebu. His practice revolves around the mechanisms and nuances of power: how it manifests, how it imposes, and how it quietly shapes the lives of those beneath it. Through form and material, he explores the tension between labor and rest, the weight of socio-economic structures, and the repetitive cycles that define the human working condition.
Most of the time, his work comes first before its meaning or explorations based on observation, resistance, and lived experience. Grounded in the realities of the working class, his sculptures aim to make visible what is often endured in silence.
Beyond themes and theories, he is committed to one thing: to remain honest, letting the work speak as it is and as it becomes.
