Joshua Carlos Barrera (b. 1999, Manila) is a visual artist whose practice is grounded in precision, restraint, and material discipline. Working primarily with ink on dark surfaces functioning as a spatial field where form, symbol, and gesture emerge with controlled clarity, he produces meticulously rendered compositions that integrate gold and metallic elements with fine linear structures. His imagery brings together mythological references, botanical forms, human figures, and fragile winged fauna forming a cohesive visual language that reflects on memory, inheritance, and impermanence. Across his body of work, the ephemeral is not treated as a fleeting theme but as a sustained inquiry—how histories are carried, altered, and quietly eroded over time. As such, figures often appear suspended or weightless, positioned between states rather than anchored to a single narrative. Eastern and Western visual patterns coexist, echoing layered cultural inheritances shaped by both personal history and colonial context.

He has staged 5 solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions in the Philippines, United States, Thailand, Hong Kong, Japan, and Ireland. Notable venues and milestones include the National Museum of the Philippines, San Francisco Art Fair (USA), Art Fair Philippines, Altro Mondo, Parallel Plus (Hong Kong), Nucleus Portland (USA), Joyman Gallery (Thailand), Victionary (Hong Kong), Modeka Art, Edoweird, and Space Encounters.
