Tres Java (b. 1984, Cebu, Philippines) is a contemporary artist based in Cebu whose practice explores the intersection of painting and assemblage through large-scale collage. Working with reclaimed plastics, paper, and other discarded materials, Java creates layered compositions that echo painterly traditions while recontextualizing everyday waste into visually compelling forms. His work explores form, narrative, and instinct, balancing deliberate composition with intuitive mark-making.
He studied Painting at the University of the Philippines, grounding his practice in formal techniques that continue to inform his material experimentation. Influenced early on by his father, also an artist, Java developed a deep connection to art from a young age. After more than a decade working as a Graphic Designer, UI Designer, and Art Director in the fashion industry—where he also engaged in printmaking and apparel design—he returned to his studio practice in 2017, bringing with him a heightened sensitivity to composition, visual structure, and materiality.
Java’s work has been exhibited internationally, with a notable presence in Montreal, Canada, including exhibitions at Galerie C.O.A. His works are held in private collections across the United States and Canada.
In parallel with his studio practice, Java is committed to community engagement. He teaches art to children with disabilities and organizes free workshops in his local community, emphasizing accessibility and creative empowerment.
