Join Amat-Amat: Introduction to Machine Knitting, a beginner-friendly workshop designed to help you build skills gradually and confidently. In this 3-hour session, you’ll be guided through the fundamentals of knitting machines in a clear, hands-on, and supportive environment.
Rooted in the Hiligaynon philosophy of amat-amat (“gradually”), this workshop encourages steady learning through practice and repetition. No prior experience needed — just curiosity and a willingness to learn at your own pace.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
- A guided introduction to knitting machine parts and basic operations
- Hands-on practice in setting up and operating the machine
- Step-by-step support in creating a basic knit swatch
- Small group format to ensure comfort and confidence
- All yarns, machines, and basic tools provided
By the end of the workshop, each participant will complete their own handmade shawl to take home!

With over four years of experience in the textile industry, he has worked across multiple stages of production—from fiber to finished fabric—developing a grounded understanding of yarns, knitted structures, and basic textile processes. His workshops are practical, hands-on, and especially welcoming to beginners, offering clear guidance on how yarn, stitches, and machines work together in harmony.
Rooted in the Hiligaynon concept of amat-amat, meaning “gradually,” Justine approaches both his practice and teaching with patience and intention. As a Hiligaynon himself, he believes knitting skills are built over time through repetition, consistency, and steady growth rather than speed. Through his workshops, he fosters a deeper appreciation for local textiles by sharing not only technical skills but also the broader context of materials, labor, and process—encouraging a more informed, mindful, and sustainable textile culture.
