Art Statement:
‘For much of my life, pain has often crippled me. But I know this pain is not mine alone, it extends to women around the world who are also crippled by their own pain, whether physical or emotional. This painting speaks not only to my own suffering, but also to the struggles all women carry. I often think of that line from Fleabag: "Women are born with pain built in." This pain, I believe, becomes a language of survival. Happy Women's Month to all the women who have endured and who continue to endure.
I painted this piece on katya fabric that I had dyed with plant materials for my thesis, using some of the excess fabric I had on hand.’
