OFF SKIN: Basic Clay Sculpting Workshop

Discover the fundamentals of clay sculpting with multidisciplinary artist Raphael Joseph Bautista Fajardo!

This beginner-friendly session is designed to introduce you to the building blocks of sculpting — from properly handling clay to creating a strong internal structure before shaping your piece.

Through a guided, hands-on process, Raphael will show you how to build a basic armature using wire and aluminum foil, then use it as the foundation for sculpting form and proportion. You’ll then apply these techniques through a basic head portrait study, learning how a face gradually takes shape in three dimensions.

No prior sculpting experience needed — just curiosity and a willingness to work with your hands.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

• A guided introduction to clay sculpting and proper clay handling
• Learn how to build a basic armature using wire and aluminum foil
• Understand how an armature supports structure, proportion, and form
• Step-by-step demonstration of basic sculpting techniques
• Guided practice in shaping facial structure and features
• Hands-on creation of your own basic head portrait study

By the end of the workshop, each participant will create their own clay head portrait study using the techniques learned during the session!
