Forest Bathing

This piece is about the Japanese practice called "shinrin-yoku" or "forest bathing". It is a form of relaxation where one spends time walking in a forest or any natural environment away from the buzz of the city.

Forest bathing is known to lessen stress, anxiety, and depression. It is an activity that the creator has discovered and started doing back in 2017 through hiking and trail running. It has helped her cope with her PTSD and depression during that time.

She has painted this scene from a photo reference and she made the trees bigger and the branches higher to show that humans are just a speck compared to the grandeur of nature.

This thought of knowing that we are so small and insignificant has always given the creator comfort. Plus, the child is a symbolism of innocence and wonder, mimicking the emotions she had during her first few hikes — she felt vulnerable but warm surrounded by the lush greens and the natural sound of the forest.
