Henri Cainglet is a trailblazing Filipino artist whose work spans painting, sculpture, and soft sculpture—often merging traditional materials with found objects through a deeply tactile and transformative process. Known for his bold imagination and hands-on approach, Cainglet treats materials not merely as tools but as collaborators, bringing out their raw, natural textures and colors in unexpected ways. Born in Bohol in 1957, Cainglet is largely self-taught, having honed his craft through art courses and apprenticeships in the U.S., rather than through conventional schooling. His distinct style—rich in earth tones, textured layering, and often grotesque yet playful forms—has earned him recognition as one of the most compelling voices in Philippine contemporary art. He is credited with popularizing soft sculpture in the country and is known for installations that pay homage to ecology and the human spirit.

Cainglet’s works have been exhibited across the globe, from Berlin and New York to Singapore and Malaysia. Following the devastation of Typhoon Haiyan and the Bohol earthquake, he used his art to aid in healing—creating pieces from debris as a form of hope and resilience.
